Claims Officer – SA/WA Liability
Location: Melbourne & Adelaide
Type: Permanent Full Time
The Opportunity:
An opportunity for a Claims Officer with liability (personal injury and public liability) claims experience to work across our SA & WA Liability Claims portfolios.
Your New Role:
QBE Insurance currently have the opportunity to join the business in the role of Claims Officer within the Liability (personal injury and public liability) space. This role is pivotal to the team’s success, proactively supporting our claim’s philosophy and strategy, managing end to end personal injury and public liability claims and acting within legislative requirements to support the unit in achieving its targeted objectives.
The key responsibilities for this role include the following, but not limited to:
- Receiving, recording and processing all incoming insurance claims in the Claims team
- Interpreting policy coverage and determining if coverage applies to claims submitted, escalating issues as needed
- Setting reserves and authorizing payments within scope of authority, settling claims in the most cost-effective manner
- Identifying suspicious or potentially fraudulent claims, notifying supervisor, arranging investigations and briefing solicitors if further action is to be taken
- Contribute towards the achievement of divisional annual action plans/budgets and operational objectives
- Develop trusted relationships with brokers / intermediaries
- Proactively managing claims to achieve best customer outcomes and prevent escalations
- Work with key internal and external stakeholders, including underwriting and sales teams, brokers, panel lawyers, other service providers, regulators, claimants and their representatives
- Develop close relationships with underwriters and product specialists
- Enhance and develop your own technical expertise and participate in professional development and training
- Deliver the highest quality customer service and develop strong working relationships with all customers and service providers
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- 1 – 2 years of third-party liability claims experience (personal injury and public liability) with a genuine interest in managing liability claims across the South Australia and Western Australia jurisdictions
- Sound technical understanding and ability to manage a diversified portfolio of bodily injury, property damage and product liability claims
- Understanding of underwriting procedures for a diversified liability portfolio and a proven ability to understand and interpret relevant policy wordings
- Ability to engage, instruct and work with relevant providers including loss adjusters, lawyers and consultants
- An understanding of, and demonstrable application of, the General Insurance Code of Practice
- Legal qualifications will be advantageous but not a mandatory requirement
- Ability collaborate effectively and build and maintain strong client/customer relationships
- Good problem-solving skills - ability to interpret technical / investigation reports to make sound business decisions
- Ability to participate in alternative dispute resolution
